A good start to the spring. I somehow managed to catch the earlier train this morning and instead of pressuring myself to study on the train, I looked out the window for a few mintues, watching the early morning sun lighting on Dublin Bay. When I got into town, I decided to head into my favourite coffee shop, next door to the train station. It's a genuine Italian coffee shop, and as I stood there waiting for my coffee, I could hear people chatting in Italian. I walked along the Dublin streets then, on my way into college, cradling the warm cup between my hands. The weather today is crisp, fresh, a little bit cool but the skies are clear. The day I stop looking around me as I walk through Dublin is the day a small part of me dies. I still cock my head sideways as I stroll along, seeing new things in the streets I have walked thousands of time. I do love Dublin. Just a very peaceful morning, very content, zen almost. To me that was a moment of happiness.

A funny entry to return to LJ with perhaps. Just felt the urge to share that, to mark it. Also, perhaps returning to LJ in the last 4 months of college will be a way to maintain such a content mindset and not give into the stress.

Well, I had 4 hours of German lectures yesterday but I was so thrilled- In our Grammer class, we had to read out a piece of German, we often do this, so the lecturer can check our pronunciation and after I read out my piece, he told me that "You have a fantastic German accent for an English speaker, you only have a small foreign accent to your words." I was so chuffed with that, as my accent is something that Ive been consciously working on. Yay!!

And I was reading into the small hours last night, preparing for one of my courses that I take at the uni proper. I was reading "Roman Elegies" by Goethe. I have to say, I didn't expect them to be sexy but my God, they are! Very sensuous poems, about love and learning, how we should give into lust because the Greeks did and werent ashamed and talking about writing poetry on a lover's body. It was a nice surprise indeed.

Ive written three parts of my new belldom fic. I think Im going to post the first part tomorrow. Im very amazed at this too- I have so far been able to just sit down and in an hour straight out write an entire chapter of the fic. Its laying itself sweetly and easily and Im enjoying writing it. Ive been reading a lot of Francesca Lia Block lately and I think some how Ive sort of imitated her style, not too much but just to infuse it with a little bit of dreaminess, and enjoy using words. The fic has also got my creative muscles back in shape and Ive begun work on a much longer project. germany seems to be good for me in this department!

Scott Walker.
Ok, I said yesterday I wanted to explain my tattoo and so Ive decided to finally do that. I have a tattoo on my left shoulder of lyrics by Scott Walker (my icon here). Theyre from "Farmer in the City". I would link you to it, but German internet says that the song isnt available in this country on youtube thanks to Sony or whatever it is. So if you want to hear it (and I recommend it), youll have to look it up yourself.

But anyway, to the reasoning behind it all:

Scott Walker.
Just looking at my LJ profile yesterday. I started this LJ nearly fave years ago. Jaysus. Didn't notice the time going like that! The past two days has consisted in me getting myself lost in museslash again and rekindling that love and finding its still there, which makes me very happy. Ive also slowly started writing again. I got bitten by the bug at 3 am last night, when I was crashing at my friends apartment, so I got up, wrapped myself in a blanket and plonked myself on her couch and wrote for an hour straight, pausing only to look out her glass door at the Rhine which goes by near her apartment block. Pure bliss.

I just feel more active and less stressed. Don't know why. Im just managing to get things done. Reading a lot, writing, house work, organising grinds, getting back into study mode. I feel fun, at the moment, if that makes any sense. Busy and happy. I think Konstanz is a good environment for me.

I also brought 200 teabags with me here, so last night I was able to drink proper Irish tea, listen to my favourite radio show, The Lighthouse with Dave Couse, on playback, whilst reading museslash. Cant ask for more really?

Also, it was Scott Walker's 68th birthday on sunday. I was thinking about him a lot, funnily enough, then listened to some of his music and thought about my tattoo. I got my Scott tattoo on MY birthday, nearly two years ago now. Again, time flies. Do I regret it? Not at all. I love it more each day. One day I need to post here why I got that tat and what it means to me, as it really means so much.

Im now into my 3rd week here and things are really starting to get into a nice pattern.
I have finally got the hang of the buses here and I always feel that once you know your way around the public transport system, that means you're part of the town. Its not that big a town here but I find myself hopping the bus a lot. My mates all live about a ten minute bus ride from me, as are most of the night clubs. But Im only one stop from the uni, so most days I walk to it, as the walk cuts through a forest and the uni itself overlooks Bodensee, the lake and the Swiss and Austrian border. Stunning.
Im still getting used to the rubbish system here. Everything has to be separated, paper, glass, bio waste...its driving me mad, though I know Im doing something good for the environment.
The bakeries here are too tempting. Theres one right beside my bus stop in town and I couldn't help pop in there and have a steaming mug of coffee and a vanilla pastry, looking at the Altstadt.

I had my first lecture yesterday, which was a bit stressful. I couldnt stop listening for a second or else I lost the thread of the lecturers meaning. Hopefully, Ill improve over the next two months.
Ive also fallen in love with the library here. I can indulge my passion for German films here infinitel and the library itself is stunning. Its decorated beautifully and very modern, with art works and private nooks everywhere to study in. It is actually more user friendly than my own Trinity library, I have to concede. You can take out an infinite number of books and theres no restrictions on the books you can take out and all the books are here on show, over 6 floors of shelving.
I started work on my reading for my dissertation yesterday and that really helped to clear my mind and put some order on my ideas. I had been sort of racketing around until that point, not really sure what I wanted to do. Now I have a better idea- Contemporary German literature, the idea of popular literature and does that mean a lowering in standard, form, theme, aesthetics and with special reference to women writers in Germany now, and me arguing that theyre actually being very literary, high brow and subversive. LOL, I need to make that more concise. But Im happy Ive got that far.

Also, though I missed the initial reception of "Richard" by Ben Myers, I do have very strong views on this book and will just put them under the cut here.
